ahmadwilliam I dont know who the hell you are but obviously you have no knowledge of the fashion business. I am not ugly or fat and I have worked in the high fashion indusrty and still have relatives and friends who work in some of its highest positions around the world. I am considered one of the best dressed people in my city and I'm always asked for advice on interiors, style, taste etc. I love clothes and beauty but hate the superficial fashion industry. Most who work in it will secretly agree that its a load of bull*****. It's there to fool the people as karl lagerfeld from Chanel said it's like the story of the king with no clothes. Fashion admires and takes from those who make their own style not the sheeps who follow it. We dont need to follow what fashion designers dictate to us. The ladies of islam chanel are not there for you to gorp at. They dont dress up in public but in private for their husbands and familty not for you. My names not usama thats my sons name can't you see

Usama Does have a point, and that point is usually spoken by fat ugly women who feel inadequate about their appearance, most Muslim women get around this disturbing position by attiring themselves in full bland veils so that the rest of us are not constantly reminded that Allah has also created ugliness as well as beauty.
Recently I saw on the Islamic channel a discussion on the merits of contemporary Muslim fashion, and unfortunately the female guests summarised a view that is prevalent within the Muslim community, moreover, it is also the cliché mentioned by Usama “…only there to make us waste money and than buy something else next season because its no good now”. The TV debate could not be taken seriously as the women looked as though they had got out of bed and simply thrown on the living room curtains, then hastily covered their shoulders with the kitchen curtains and finished off with the bathroom mat; what they failed to communicate with words, that is, our outside appearance reflects our inner self, they managed to vocalise well with their drab unintellectual miserable exterior.

Fashion is an expression of the self, a means of delivering the message “this is me, like it or lump it”, a statement that is full of Islamic rhetoric. Furthermore, fashion designers play a pivotal role in the makeup of society and give us the ability to show off our individuality and our uniqueness, a point of reference we would otherwise find difficult to obtain. The Emel’s tentative steps towards the relevance of fashion to Islam is admirable and shows that Muslims are free thinkers and do not simply make carbon copies of themselves, as portrayed by the western media. Moreover, as Mariams’ experience of fashion increases and her knowledge of tastes change, as bequeaths us all, her balancing act of the neoconservatives on one hand and the liberal open minded on the other shall become easier.

No Mariam Mahir I'd rather not follow your fashion focus advice which is more of a fashion victim advice. I'd rather have my own style than follow current trends that are only there to make us waste money and than buy something else next season because its no good now. Or rather they want us to spend more money now. I thought this mag was run by people who were islamicaly minded. I'd expect them to have more sense and not advise us on following something just because its this seasons thing or must have. You could do some good features on fashion rather than the above which I could find in any cheap tacky mag or tv show.
