Watch This Face - Uzma Hasan
Issue 73 October 2010
After eight months of relentlessly chasing Mira Nair, a prominent Indian film director and producer, Uzma Hasan managed to land herself a Production Assistant job on Nair’s feature film, Vanity Fair. “My hardest challenge to date was getting that job, considering I had absolutely no experience in the film industry,” says Uzma. “But I learnt a valuable lesson during that experience – persistence always pays off!”
Having graduated from the University of Wales with a First in English Literature, Uzma went on to study Film and Literature at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as a Kennedy Scholar. Her first and incredibly successful venture as the producer of the British comedy of the year, The Infidel, has been released in over 60 countries around the world.
Uzma now sits on the selection committees for Nair’s MAISHA Labs and the British Indepedent Film Awards. She is also London Chapter Head of Harvardwood, the official network of Harvard alumni in the entertainment and media industries and has recently been selected as an Inside Pictures 2010 delegate.
Due to start production on her next project – ‘Baptism’ with Oscar nominated director Uli Edel, Uzma cites film as being one of the most powerful creative mediums, “I genuinely believe that cinema can inspire people to see the world in a different way.”
